Education Assistance Program
Our focus in the short-term is
going to be on providing financial resources required for the provision of
direct-to-jobs skills training (Education) and micro-enterprise type development
projects. We want to ensure that there will be skilled workers
available to get into the new jobs that we are encouraging micro-enterprises
to create. ICA believes that these are the key
areas through which we can make the maximum
impact on economic development and consequently,
on poverty alleviation in Africa today.
We have identified that one of the key causes of
poverty in Africa today is the
lack of employment for young men and women. Most
African countries now have adequate numbers of
"viable" primary and secondary schools.
In 90% of Africa, the problem today is not a lack
of primary education, rather it is the inability of graduates
coming out of secondary and primary schools to
secure meaningful employment. They lack the
necessary trades skills required by potential
employers and for staring their own ventures.
ICA has identified that the introduction of trade and
skills training schools
will provide another
avenue for these young people to gain computer and other
technical skills, which would allow them to secure their desired
jobs. This will improve
the economic situations of their immediate
families and eventually, their local communities.
